Air Fryer Doughnuts

Air Fryer Donuts taste just as delicious as the deep friend versions. In this recipe they are smothered in a delicious chocolate glaze, but you could just dip them in Sugar instead.

Cooking mode

  • 250ml milk, lukewarm
  • 2 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 55g unsalted butter, melted
  • 360g plain flour
  • oil spray

For the chocolate glaze

  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 80g milk
  • 1 tbsp golden syrup
  • 75g milk chocolate, chopped
  • 150g icing sugar, sieved

Utensils

  • Step 1

    In the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook, combine milk, 1 tsp sugar and the yeast.

  • Step 2

    Leave for 10 minutes until frothy.

  • Step 3

    Add remaining sugar, salt, egg, melted butter and 1/2 of the flour to the milk mixture.

  • Step 4

    Mix on low until combined, then add the remaining flour.

  • Step 5

    Increase speed to medium low and knead for 7 minutes, until the dough is elastic and smooth.

  • Step 6

    Place the dough into a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth or cling film.

  • Step 7

    Lave to rest until doubled in size.

  • Step 8

    Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, punch down and roll into a large rectangle of 1/2 inch thickness.

    Cut out 10 donuts using a 2.5 inch round cutter.

  • Step 10

    Use a small round cutter to cut a hole into the center.

    Place onto a tray with lightly floured greaseproof paper on it.

    Cover lightly with cling film.

  • Step 13

    Leave to rise for 30 minutes.

  • Step 14

    Preheat Air Fryer to 180c.

  • Step 15

    Spray basket with oil spray.

  • Step 16

    Place the doughnut to the air fryer basket carefully.

  • Step 17

    Spray doughnuts with oil and cook for 4 minutes.

  • Step 18

    Repeat with remaining Doughnuts.

  • Step 19

    Make the glaze by combining the butter, milk and golden syrup in a pan.

  • Step 20

    Heat gently over medium low heat till melted.

  • Step 21

    Turn the heat right down and add chocolate.

  • Step 22

    Whisk till melted.

  • Step 23

    Remove from heat and whisk in the icing sugar.

  • Step 24

    Place the mixture over a bowl of warm water and dip the doughnuts into it.

    Allow glaze to set for 30 minutes before serving.
