Vegan Beef Mince Substitute

This quick and easy to make Vegan Beef Mince substitute is delicious stirred into your favourite sauce but also makes the perfect high protein salad topper too. Ready in less than 30 minutes and packed full of flavour.

Cooking mode

  • 300g extra firm tofu
  • 100g pecans or walnuts
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (use tamari if gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp coconut sugar/maple syrup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tsp red wine vinegar
  • Cooking spray

Utensils

  • Step 1

    Pat dry the tofu and add to the bowl of a food processor along with the remaining ingredients, except for the cooking spray. Pulse until you have a mixture resembling minced beef.

  • Step 2

    Spray the crisper basket with cooking spray then place into the cooking pot. Transfer the vegan mince beef to the crisper basket and spread gently into an even layer.

  • Step 3

    Close the lid and select AIRFRY, setting the temperature to 190°C and time to 20 minutes. Press START/STOP to begin cooking. Stir every 5 minutes until cooked through and browned.

  • Step 4

    Either serve immediately by adding to a sauce or leave to cool completely before storing in an airtight container within the refrigerator.

    Notes:

    If freezing, allow to cool completely before placing into an airtight container. To reheat AIRFRY at 200°C for 5 minutes or until hot before stirring into your favourite sauce.
