Jeera Rice

Jeera Rice goes well with most curries. It is usually made daily in many Indian homes including my own. To make the recipe super quick, you can omit everything minus the Water, Cumin, Salt, Ghee and Rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Ghee or Oil
  • 1/4 Onion diced (Optional)
  • 1 clove Garlic crushed
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 3 Green Cardamom Pods
  • 3 Cloves
  • 300ml Water
  • 1 cup/180g Rice soaked for 30 minutes (I use Basmati)
  • 1 tsp Salt

Method

Select Sear/Saute and set to medium/high.

  • Step 2

Add the ghee/oil and cumin seeds. Heat for 30 seconds before adding in the onion and garlic.

  • Step 3

Saute for 2 – 3 minutes and add the Bay Leaf, Cinnamon Stick, Cardamom Pods, Cloves, Water, Rice and Salt.

  • Step 4

Close the pressure lid and make sure the steam valve is set to seal. Cook on high for 5 minutes. Release the steam and fluff rice with a fork.
